I really enjoyed the experience in several ways: it was an opportunity to learn more Māori kupu, concepts and whakataukī, which helped deepen my understanding of te ao Māori. I especially liked that this learning occurred through song, which not only helped me to retain the Māori vocabulary and translations more easily, but made the experience of learning really enjoyable. The way Sean facilitated the workshop was excellent - he created a friendly atmosphere, and at the same time provided strong guidance, without making anyone seem uncomfortable. He helped the group work very well as a unit, while also allowing individuals to complement each other. Everyone in the group also picked up the musical elements quickly, which demonstrates Sean's ability to facilitate musical learning too. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who values group singing, and wants to extend their knowledge of te ao and te reo Māori. (Liam Prince)
One way of uplifting yourself and others is singing in a group. Not only as a supportive unit to each other but also for the learning experience. Sean's workshops are delivered in a supportive non- judgemental way that reflects the loving nature of singing! I attended his workshop at Evolve Festival in Nelson and really enjoyed learning new material. He has a beautiful voice and introduces harmonies with ease. He leads the group gently, introducing more challenging material with a calm manner. It was a safe space and Sean is very approachable as a facilitator. (Tanya Nock)
